Here are Mary’s answers:

How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are?
24 years old. I’m actually 19 years old.

Which is worse, failing or never trying?
Never trying, in my opinion.

If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
I feel as though the things we don’t do are for the people who mean the most to us. Humans tend to want to please the people they love instead of putting themselves first. Therefore, we end up participating in things we don’t enjoy instead of things we do.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?
I hope that what I have done will be equal to what I have said. But as of right now, I have said more than I have done.

What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world?
How judgmental and hateful people are. People should follow the golden rule: Treat others how you wish to be treated.

If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Any act of selflessness. Do things to make others happy, it’ll make you feel good!

Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing?
I’m doing what I believe in. I think that is very important. Don’t settle for something if you don’t truly believe in it.

If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently?
Spend more quality time with my loved ones. Take more chances each day.

To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
Each decision you make contributes to the course your life takes. You also have to take into consideration how those decisions will affect the people around you. I feel as though I do things to please people more so than doing what I want.

Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
I’m more worried about doing things right. Whenever somebody tells me I’ve done something wrong, it brings me down and eats away at me.

You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire.  They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend.  The criticism is distasteful and unjustified.  What do you do?
Say something kind about the friend. Stick up for him or her in a way that doesn’t offend your other three friends.

If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be?
Do what makes you happy.

Would you break the law to save a loved one?
Yes.

Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity?
Yes.

What’s something you know you do differently than most people?
I empathize with others. People are so selfish anymore, and don’t take time out of the day to listen to what is bothering others.

How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy?
Every person is unique because of their personality. Depending on what their personality is like will decide what makes them happy.

What one thing have you not done that you really want to do?  What’s holding you back?
Travel around the world. Lack of money is holding me back.

Are you holding onto something you need to let go of?
Yes. The past haunts you in a way that it feels like you will never be able to let go.

If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
I’d move to North Carolina because I’d love to live on the beach.

Do you push the elevator button more than once?  Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
No, I only push it once. No, it doesn’t make the elevator faster. People are just too impatient.

Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton?
A worried genius. Even though you are worried, you can still be happy!

Why are you, you?
I was raised by amazing parents, lived with loving siblings and grew up with caring friends. Every person you meet leaves some type of impression on you. Whether it be good or bad, the people in my life have made me who I am today.

Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend?
For the most part. Sometimes I wish I was there for others more often, but I try to be there as much as I can.

Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you?
Losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you.

What are you most grateful for?
My boyfriend, my best friend and my family. They are the ones to keep me happy.

Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
That’s a really tough question, but I think I would rather lose all of my old memories. I want to be able to remember how my boyfriend proposes to me, how our wedding goes, the excitement of finding out that we’re having a kid, seeing our children grow up. Even though my old memories are awesome, there are things that I look forward to in the future.

No, it doesn’t matter at all.

My happiest childhood memory is spaghetti dinners at my parent’s old house. It is special to me because every single person in my family would come over once a month to spend time with each other.

At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive?
Whenever my boyfriend and I made a spontaneous trip to Niagara Falls.

If not now, then when?
Then never.

If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose?
You have nothing to lose. Take chances!

Yes, there has only been one person in my life that I can continuously have comfortable silence with.

Why do religions that support love cause so many wars?
Sometimes you have to fight for what you love.

Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil?
No. A certain object could have the appeal that it is good, but in the end be evil and vice versa.

If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job?
No. I’d keep working and act like I didn’t win anything. You can’t let money take over your life.

Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
I’d rather have more work that I actually enjoy doing. I like to keep busy.

Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
No. Each day comes and goes differently.

No. Those are unimportant factors in life.

Being alive is simply living on this planet. Truly living, however, is when you make the best of each day by doing what makes you happy.

When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right?
As soon as you can. Follow your instincts!

If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake?
Today’s society has a strict outlook of what is wrong and right, and people are afraid to not follow that outlook and make mistakes. People are also afraid from getting hurt and causing a negative effect on their lives.

What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you?
Nothing. People can judge me all they wish. I live my life the way I want to.

In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday?  What about the day before that?  Or the day before that?
I hope to remember as much of my life as I can. However, I believe that you only need to remember the important parts of your life.
