We are so looking forward to this film. Sharing the viewpoint of the bully is not something that is easy to do. Our minds and behaviors are so complex, there could be millions of thoughts, moments, words and feelings that lead people to do the things they do – and bullies are no exception.
The character Avery in this movie does not want to admit how badly she treated Jessica, the 16-year-old girl who is in the hospital after an attempted suicide. She describes their relationship as if they were simply old friends who no longer share the same interests. The casual description of their relationship bares a stark difference from the hurtful words and torturous treatment she inflicted upon Jessica. It makes us wonder how bullies really feel about their victims, and why they feel that way. Why do they feel the need to harass and intimidate certain people? What brought them to that point? What reinforces them? What do they get out of it?
Finding such answers can only be done by getting into the mind of a bully. Listening what they have to say. The problem is, most of them don’t want to discuss it. Most of them aren’t proud of it and would rather not admit to anything. Instead they justify it or play it down, like it’s not that big of a deal.
That is why The Bully Chronicles is going to be so fascinating. It gives us some insight on what is going on inside that bully’s mind.
